In Fairtrade Fortnight, 2011, we worked with schools to focus on Fairtrade Cotton. We held a celebration of Gosport Schools’ work on Fairtrade – hosted by the Mayor at Gomer Junior School Chamber- 10th March. and later at the Town Hall
Ten schools (from Infants to Secondary) particpated : some displayed their work about Fairtrade; some brought Fairtrade cotton bunting and banners they made from Fairtrade cotton. Delegates were encouraged to bring along Fairtrade product wrappers theycollected to make a collage together on the day. There were opportunities to find out about Fairtrade school uniforms; games, quizzes and fun activities schools can do in relation to Fairtrade and how to become a Fairtrade School. (Contact GFA for further details)
After the event the delegates were invited by the Mayor, Councillor Roger Allen, to an Award Ceremony in the Council Chamber, where each school was awarded a certificate to acknowledge their contribution to a better understanding of Fairtrade in the Borough of Gosport.
The banner and schools work were displayed in the Discovery Centre, then Elson and Bridgemary Libraries.
